Hey! My name is Matt Decuir. I’m 23, single, and live in Plano, TX. I moved here 5 years ago from Houston to attend the University of North Texas (Go Mean Green) and have since fallen in love with the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
While at UNT, I always knew that I wanted to major in business. However, once I saw the power of marketing and what it could do to make or break businesses, adding to that the fact that it was the perfect mix of my analytical and creative sides, I knew that marketing was what I wanted to study, and the field I wanted to go into long-term.
I’ve had many traditional and non-traditional opportunities to put my skills to work. I did take on marketing internships while in college to learn from professionals in the field. At the same time my opportunities on-campus afforded many opportunities as well. As an orientation leader for North Texas, I put my brand advocate skills to work, being the face of the university for new students and their parents, and getting them excited about the unt brand. While working for the Center For Leadership and Service and the Office of Sustainability, I had the opportunity to formulate marketing initiatives and plan some of UNT’s first large-scale service events. And finally, as a chartering member of a social fraternity, I held positions where I was in charge of marketing and branding the fraternity campus and community-wide.
Recently, I discovered I had a love for writing, and a different take on things than most people. After running a blog, I decided that I wanted to learn more about web marketing and took an internship with an SEO firm, learning different aspects of interactive Marketing and social media.
